T41P Power Problem

#1 Post by DerangedDC » Wed Aug 18, 2010 3:53 pm

So, we'll just skip the introductions and go right to the problem. My hard drive toasted on my little T41p a little while ago and I waited about a month before I got around to getting a new one. When i eventually did, i threw it in my laptop and now when I plug the puppy in the charge light flashes for a split second and nothing happens. It won't charge, won't turn on with battery in or out, won't do anything but sit there like a big black paper weight, laughing at me. I hear it while i sleep.

So does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be? I'm sure it's hardware but I don't have much experience working with these crazy folding things. Is there a fuse somewhere that blew? Should I pull the board out and look for a fried chip? Is my computer possessed by the devil?

I'd love some ideas.

Mod edit - I edited the title to reflect the problem described in this thread. - Harryc

Did you put in the HD the correct way (upside down [label at bottom]), using the proper caddy and screws?

One of the standard procedures:
Remove the AC adapter and battery, hold down the power button repeatedly for 10 repetitions, and hold it down for 30 seconds on the last repetition. Release the button. Now plug in AC power only and try to power on.
If that fails you most likely have a problem on the systemboard.
