Re: Where Can I Find Recovery Discs for My T41?
The beat, possibly failing HDD that came with my T41 has the HPA.
I'm thinking there's a choice to have it make discs that will install the HPA and enable the IBM magic button.
Is that correct?

If it is functional the recovery options will appear on boot by holding down F11. Also you'll need Thinkvantage Rescue & Recovery to create the discs.

Re: Where Can I Find Recovery Discs for My T41?
I thought there was supposed to be some IBM software installed in XP.
There's none.
Maybe the install didn't finish or maybe there's just none.
Many, MANY items in device manager items didn't have their driver installed.
I'm choosing some from a list but MANY are UNKNOWN DEVICE, so there's no telling what to choose.
All the USB ports were NOT installed.
Now that they are installed, they don't recognize the BT dongle I inserted.
I removed a couple of items hoping they'd be found on search for new hardware but they weren't found.
Would inserting a different corporate XP install disc help with drivers?
Why isn't it going online to get drivers from MS?
The HPA should have included all the drivers needed for this stock IBM hardware.

The recovery partition is defective. Try a set of working recovery discs.

Re: Where Can I Find Recovery Discs for My T41?
I was choosing from a list of drivers, guessing.
I later let it search and most turned out to be USB port drivers.
There were a couple of packet movers and two video drivers.
I got the all recognized/installed except one USB hub.
Whenever I try to updated it's driver, I get a blue screen and it reboots.
The left click button at the bottom of the touchpad doesn't have much travel or spring to it.
It works but if I use it to drag a window, it may not go as cleanly as it should.
The top, left click button is fine. I'll probably use a mouse anyway. It's nice having the touchpad to fall back on.
Is there supposed to be BT in control panel by default?
I don't see any way to enable a driver or services for my BT dongle/mouse.
The mouse did come with a disc. I didn't have to use the disc with Ubuntu or W7.
Thank you

If you do not use recovery disks and install a regular Windows instead, you should install M$ dotnetframework and Lenovo's SystemUpdate 3.14 (for XP and Vista) or SU 4.0 for Windows 7.
Run that, and it will find and install all the Lenovo drivers for your particular machine.

Re: Where Can I Find Recovery Discs for My T41?
Definitely. It sounds to me like someone went and reinstalled a retail copy, and didn't install the necessary drivers. If you go to control panel and choose system, is there OEM information there like an IBM logo or something? If not than someone reinstalled.RealBlackStuff wrote:If you do not use recovery disks and install a regular Windows instead, you should install M$ dotnetframework and Lenovo's SystemUpdate 3.14 (for XP and Vista) or SU 4.0 for Windows 7.

Adding OEM info (logos, support information etc) to any XP install is very easy.
