Installed new HDD & XP Pro - now no wireless driver - ??

#1 Post by fmikec » Thu Aug 19, 2010 9:36 pm

Bought a used T41 with no hard drive (T41 2373-VL4).

Got a Travelstar 80gb on eBay and installed XP Pro. Formatted the partition, etc. Now it cannot see the internal wireless card (it was working in the demo).

How do I get it to recognize the wireless? The Device Manager does not detect the internal wireless card. I think I may need to download a driver from IBM but I do not know the name, model of the card and don't want to take the T41 apart. I have no disk but the XP CD - a copy).

Any ideas?

Thanks..

2373-VL4 is a T42, and it did not come with a wireless card from the factory.

Thanks for your reply. You are right, it is a T42. I also was mixing up a wireless demo I had when shopping, another machine.

Ordered a wireless G card on eBay. I see it is not a difficult physical installation. Sorry for the confusion.

Just be sure you ordered a card with an IBM FRU, and not a generic one; otherwise you'll need to mod your bios in order to make the laptop accept that wireless card.
