T42 2373 Q1U has IBM a/b/g

T42 2373 Q4U has Intel a/b/g

(I like IBM)

is there anything different between the 2 (ibm's vs intel's)?

if not then why do you like it?

thanks.

Wasn't there an issue with the IBM a/b/g when used with WinXP and SP2?
I think the IBM drivers won't work with SP2. That is what I found when I
investigated installing SP2 on my A31p with WinXP SP1. IBM didn't have
drivers compatible with SP2 and they didn't have a workaround. That was
the reason I still use SP1. It was somewhere on the IBM site. I can
probably find the address if someone needs it.

Ancillary reports have shown the IBM to have better range and more stable drivers. I have the IBM, use it with SP2, and it runs flawlessly.I use wireless many hours a day as my regular connection at great distances from the access points, and find the range to be exceptional. That being said, I'm sure the other card is fine if you have reason to buy a machine that has it. YMMV.

if you get the intel 1 you will have a centrino package computer but what if you get the ibm 1, besides of not been power by centrino blah blah what would be different? maybe ibm shorts the battery life or something like that?

There is some baggage here. When the machines first came out with Intel Wireless cards, they worked poorly or not at all. I junked my Intel card and purchased the IBM card. It works flawlessly and always has, and it works fine with SP2 and always did. I used to note that Centrino = Hype. I think new drivers has solved most of the problems, but that was too late for me.

So (1) pick your own card - either should work today; and (2) there is nothing in the Centrino label worth having. I took off the stick-on labels from the palm-rest because they wear off anyway, and my machine boots up Pentium M instead of Centrino. It works perfectly. Centrino cannot improve upon that. ...
