T42p LCD very dim
Have a 93P4159 System Board, FireGl. LCD display is scarcely visible but external display is fine.
I know it's not the display. Changed inverter & cable, still not working. Moved the LCD to another board and it works fine (so not the CCFL backlamp).
I tested all the fuses on the 93P4159 (F3, F7, F8) and all test OK (zero ohms on a with DVM).
Anyone have any ideas?

Was this a complete system that had a bad system board that you then replaced? What other parts were replaced that are not original?

Remove the keyboard, but leave it connected.
Then put and keep pressure on the ATI GPU (under the right hand part of the cooler) and try to boot.
If the LCD now comes on (even 'stuttering'), you have a loose GPU that needs reflowing/reballing.

Guys,
Thanks for the replies.
Harryc - All parts are original. Was a complete system.
RealBlackStuff - If the GPU has loose connections and needs to be reballed, wouldn't all video not work (External display works fine)?

Re: T42p LCD very dim
Well, if it's not the LCD or fuses on the system board, then I think the next logical component to replace is the system board itself.

Re: T42p LCD very dim
The GPU has two output channels, a digital one to the internal LCD, and an analog one to the external VGA port/external monitor.
If one is defective, the other one could still be working.
