Sata SSD via ultrabay caddy in T43p

#1 Post by ieder1 » Thu Aug 26, 2010 4:02 am

hi all, I experience some problems trying to get a Sata SSD (Vertex2) to work in my T43p. I think I've read all threads about having a SSD in your T4x but still experience some problems.. =/

first of all booting is taking more time in stead of less. the bios seems to do a lot of thinking on it before it lets the system start up.
secondly the laptop seems to be not willingly to start up without my older PATA drive. but I want it out of mu laptop to save on weight and power consumption.

has anyone else experienced (and solved) any of these problems?

Remove the PATA hard drive from boot order and move the SSD to the top in BIOS/Startup options.

thanks, it boots without the old PATA drive now. :)

still the first boot screen takes a lot of time but I guess there's not really a solution for it?

Somewhere in the bios "config" menu there is an option for extended memory test. make sure that is disabled.

that option is disabled indeed, so thats's not the problem.
thanks for your comment, though.

the boot screen just seems to freeze for about 30 secs. :?

During the time where it freezes up can you do anything, like turn on the thinklight, caps lock, go to access ibm menu?

yes, I can press F1 or F12 and it gives feedback like 'entering boot list', the thinklight and capslock are also functional.
