Just got my 2379DXU!
Hello everyone,
I just received my 2379DXU! I can't believe how solid a notebook IBM builds! No dead pixels and a very solid keyboard (I'm not sure which one it is).
Is there anything I should do to keep the laptop running at peak performance?
Thanks,
Wired333

You have to do a parts lookup based on model and serial number. Part numbers and the lookup site are in the FAQ in my signature.

The Thai is said to have a more tactile response. AFAIK all FVUs have the Thai keyboard.

Well I did the parts lookup and found out it is a Chinese keyboard. Mine feels really tactile though - no squeaks by the arrow keys and no flex. Maybe they have improved the Chinese keyboard?
Anyway, my next question is about ATITOOL - when I download the application, I can't seem to find where the Hard Drive Accoustic option is located. Does anyone have the version number they are running?
This model comes with the 60 GB 7200 rpm drive and while it's not that loud, I wanted to see if ATITOOL could make it silent.
As of now, great machine! Also ordered my recovery CDs from tech support - first experience is that you should not call them after 6 PM (lady was grouchy and must of been tired).

3 days later do you still like your DXU????
I had decided against this machine in favor of something else (to remain nameless) but IBM keeps on dropping the dang price.
How's the fan noise under heavy use like gaming?
It's now $1400 and something on the EPP site. How low can it go before it's discontinued?

I've had my 2379-DXU since Janurary and bought it without even knowing about this site for $2400 shipped
. I love my thinkpad like no other after having a POS Dell inspiron 5150 that kept breaking down on me. Sometimes I wish I would of gotten the 14" screen but for the most part, my T42 never really leaves my desk since it's my main comp. The size and weight of the 15" doens't bother me at all expecially coming from an 8 pound Dell laptop. Haven't had any real problems with my 2379-DXU except for the occasional CD drive not ejecting which I have searched on and it seems to be somewhat of a common problem. Should be getting my 256mb memory chip from crucial within the next few days, so we'll see if it makes any difference; couldn't afford the 512mb chip due to money constraints (poor college student).

Your making the $1424 DXU EPP price sound like a bargain, even with decent T43s almost here.
The stock 512mb should be plenty for opening a CD door? Hope it helps with your problem though. If not make IBM fix it.
I love my TP also. I sometimes DO regret that I bought a 15" and not a 14" seeing that it is substantially more compact but coming from a 8-9 lbs Dell I8100 (10+ lbs with power brick, thing is a beast!) it's not a biggy. Anyways, just wanted to welcome you to the club Wired333! Congrats on your puchase and kudos!!!
Best regards,
Chris

Haha...it does sound funny after reading my post. I'm just adding 256mb of ram to my comp....gonna see if it does anything to it as in the way of speeding things up, I know it has absolutely no connection to the CD ejecting.trikster2 wrote: Thanks for the input CrazyJeeper!

As far as the fan noise, it's only when I am using WiFi, so it must be a censor issue.
I still can't believe how great this thing is! It's a little bulky, but I'm happy I went with the 15" screen so I can have multiple windows open at once (doing graphic and web work the extra screen space really helps).
Just a little FYI, I'm going to be using this next semester as my full-time college notebook. Does anyone have a good backpack they use for their ThinkPad?

What Leon said (I can't believe we're agreeing two days in a row!). Try searching for Brenthaven or Targus. That should keep you occupied for a while.
