Good deal on a T41P?

#1 Post by sneakyazn » Thu Mar 10, 2005 12:47 am

I used to browse all the information on this site a lot when i was researching for a laptop. I ended up getting an x31 and have been quite happy with it. Earlier today I saw a T41p on ebay and it seemed like a great deal so I just jumped on it. Normally I research more, but it seems like you guys are much more educated in valuation. Specs are:

the t41p specs:

1.7ghz
2GB ram
60gb 7200rpm drive
bluetooth
abg wireless
SXGA
128 MB Firegl T2
dvd/cdrw drive
2 batteries
1 media slot battery
1 booq sleeve
2 ac adapters
No warranty.

I got it for 1350 shipped to me. It was originally a refurb unit. Any advice on if this was a good deal? I guess i'm just trying to justify my purchase ;).

I think it's almost too good to be true.

But you already got it, so it's true.. ;-) congrats

I think it was a fair deal. Considering it was refurb, used, and no warranty. Other than that the entire package / specs is pretty good. You should be happy. :)

Well he said he was browsing eBay earlier TODAY, so i think he might have just meant he paid $1350, not actually got it yet...

That deal does sound a bit too good to be true, so be extra careful... I got my T41p on eBay too... I won about 8-9 SCAM listings before getting the real deal...

Mine was $1500 about 6 months ago, brand new with warranty. Great deal at the time, probably still would be even now.

Yeah, I was a bit worried about being scammed on ebay too. I almost got taken a couple of years ago. It made me feel better that he has been a member since 1999 and that he has a rating of 1140 with 100% feedback. I also checked the items he sold to make sure they weren't just penny or low ticket items to beef up his rating. But hopefully it comes next week and everything is ok. I had a couple of questions that i hoped you gurus could answer for me:

1. has anybody used bluetooth and their cell phone as a modem? any problems i should expect?

2. The mini dock shows a max resolution of 1280x1024 and i know that people have used it for up to 1600x1200. Is it possible to exceed 1600x1200 to possibly 1920x1200?

3. Is it really bad to set the resolution of a native 1400x1050 screen to 1280x1024 os 1024x768? Extremely noticeable?

Thanks guy, you definitely helped me a lot last time when i purchased my x31, and i'm sure you can teach me the ropes of this t41

1. Pretty painless, I connected an Ericsson T610 and several Nokia phones to my T41p as a modem through Bluetooth...

2. Don't have a mini dock, so I'm not sure..

3. Well it's not really "bad", it doesn't harm anything, but it WILL be noticeable... You can tell the crispness of a native resolution from the blur of a non-native resolution a mile away on an LCD... It won't be so bad that things will become unreadable or anything though. Unless you work with graphics like me, you should get by fine :)
