Adding Bluetooth to a T43 or settle for a CTO T42???

#1 Post by craigg » Thu Mar 10, 2005 12:41 pm

I am ready to place an order for a new notebook. I really love the size and battery life of the 14.1" models versus the 15" model. Since the video card is welded into the units, in order to get at least an ATI 9600 one is forced to upgrade to the 15" screen. Here is my dilemma:

I can order the T43, Model#266844U and get mostly everything I want except for Bluetooth, Multiburner, 1GB, and high capacity battery. I can order the last three as accessories but my question is can I upgrade the internal bluetooth the same way as posted for the T42 by just swapping the modem/bluetooth daughter card?

or.....

Should I just accept the weight of the 15" T42 and live with that by ordering it the way I want from the beginning?

The price for both configurations is within $100 or so and I assume the X300 graphics card will perform similarly to the ATI 9600.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again :)

Plenty of models with 9600 and 14". Check the tabook.pdf with link in the FAQ in my signature.

Unless you absolutely need it, you are better off with external DVD burners which are much faster and can do double layer.

I have looked at just about every model I could and I may find one that has the 9600 but no bluetooth or no finger print reader. Most don't have the Multiburner! All CTO 14" T42s come with ATI 7500. I don't burn a lot of dvds but I do like the the convenience of having it built in. Since I am already paying a premium for IBM quality I feel I might as well get one the way I want it.
