Use any 9.5 mm HD in an Ultrabay Slim 2nd HDD adapter?

#1 Post by zelchenko » Thu Mar 10, 2005 3:20 pm

My old laptop recently bit the dust. I am in the process of acquiring a T42. I would like to buy an Ultrabay Slim adapter for 2nd hard drives and use my 60 gig hard drive from my old Compaq in it. Can I use any 9.5 mm HD in the adapter allegedly "made for ThinkPad harddrives" or is there some proprietary connector that makes this difficult?

the adapter isn't "made for thinkpad hard drives" -- it's made for 2.5" form factor 9.5mm thick laptop drives.   so, yes, the drive from your compaq will mount just fine. :)

Keep in mind for optimal fit you'll need the metal caddy/shield that screws onto the drive. It's not 100% required but it is a good idea. I think Bill sells them...
X61 7674-4NU
120 GB HD & 2.0 GB RAM
It just keeps getting better and better...

It's here!

Ordered Friday evening. Left Hong Kong 1 am Saturday, arrives Upstate NY 5 pm Monday. I can't even send a package intracontinental that fast on a weekend.

Opening box now!
