Trying to identify correct WLAN Adaptor

#1 Post by Andouche » Thu Sep 09, 2010 3:16 pm

I'm trying to identify what WLAN Adaptor is installed on my T400 so that I can download the correct drivers for Windows 7.

When I do a parts lookup on the Lenovo Support Site, I get the following result:

Mfg part # 43Y6510
FRU part # 43Y6511
Description: HARRISON WLAN ADAPTER FRU

On the Lenovo Driver Matrix for T400, I don't see drivers for any Wireless Adaptors that fit this description.

Anybody know which Wireless Adaptor this info corresponds with?

Look for drivers for "ThinkPad 11b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter III" for your OS.
It's an Atheros-based card.
Vista: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 67351.html This probably also works with Windows 7
XP: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 70480.html

Thanks guys!

I've installed the Vista drivers but am having issues.

The reason I was trying to identify my WLAN adaptor correctly is because I've recently installed Windows 7 and ever since, the internet has been painfully slow. I installed Windows 7 cleanly on my machine that had been preinstalled with Windows Vista. Under Vista, I had absolutely no wireless issues. Win7 says that my wireless signal is 'Excellent' and shows full bars with Internet connectivity. Browsing the web though is extremently slow.

I have 2 other laptops on my home network - a T500 running WinXP and a Mac Book Pro. Both have blazing fast broadband while my T400 with Win7 can barely load a page.

I've observed that pinging my router results in 25%-75% dropped packets, even now after having updated my WLAN drivers. Again, two other laptops on my network have no issues with connecting to the router and have really fast internet speeds so something tells me that the router is not the problem.

Any suggestions?

Check what wifi card you have in the T500.
Get the same one for your T400.
Or swap them for the moment, just to see if that works.

Hi,

Have run Belarc or Speccy? Either of thes programs will tell you everything about your computers. Belarc will even tell you you the key codes of your software and if your windows updates are up to date.

The best part is these are FREE programs.

I've run Belarc and it also identifies my wireless card as a '11b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter III'.
