T43 (2668) total blackout

#1 Post by hapilo » Fri Sep 10, 2010 1:52 am

Hello!

My first post and first problem with my T43 :o)

I have read almost everything that is related to T-series laptops.

Battery and charger has been tested in another similar and both are working properly. None of the lights does not light up any stage and nothing happens when I try to start the device. I am dismantling the device and measured all the fuses. All fuses are intact. None of the component does not appear to be blown. Only what I have get measured is input voltage at the motherboard connector and that voltage is correct. What component could be defective when any kind of life is not detectable?

I believe the problem to be the component which selects the input voltage between the battery and charger. Maybe I'm wrong...

Hi and welcome to the forums.

Yes it may be a complete failure of your laptop, or a blown fuse (for a fuses diagram see my sig, download the documents list and then click on the T4x fuse locations document).

There is third reason which we are seeing more frequently. A completely dead laptop - no lights, no nothing - which can also be due to an unsoldered Southbridge (SB). In fact we successfully repaired two Thinkpads today with this exact fault by reballing the SB chips.

If you'd like more information about our reflowing services check out the second link RBS refers to in his post and / or email me on nick@reflowrepairs.com and I'll send you a proper quote.
