Do people understand now why big blue sold it's thinkpad line to the Chinese?

what? you mean if you were me, you paid premium $$$ for the best notebook and when you received it, there're some defects, you will keep it? Doesn't make sense to me.

I think they have them instock but their inventory system still show them as 30-45 days wait. If you're ok to wait, just order it. Who knows, You might receive it in a couple days.

Having a SINGLE dead pixel doesn't constitute a 'defect' in my book. While you don't agree with this, the current fate of the Thinkpad line is a result of customers like yourself.

What other notebook company would take a return on ONE dead pixel? DELL? HP? APPLE? NONE.

Yes, they all do take a return for any reason for the first 30 days.
It's what they called "Satisfaction Guaranty!"

And in my book, ONE SINGLE dead pixel is definitely a defect. It's your consumer's right to have a perfect machine. All LCD manufacturer will follow Samsung in korea soon; They have 0 dead pixel replacement guaranty. It's customer like you that do not use your right and do not let the manufacturer admit that 1 dead pixel in LCD panel is definitely a defect, not 4-5 or more as they want you to believe.

When/if other companies implement a zero dead pixel policy, they will build this into the price.

Ummmmmmmm........., no.

IBM is one of the few, if not the only manufacturer, that will allow a return for any or even NO reason within 30 days of purchase with no questions asked and with no "restocking" fee. You get ALL of your money back except for return shipping.

There may be other manufacturers with the same policy, but I'm not aware of them, regardless you can't say that "all do take reurn for any reason for the first 30 days" as it simply isn't true.

Ok.. may be i'm not correct about 30 days but they all do take return for any reason. Some are within 15 days, not 30 days.

Dell, HP are 30 days
Fujitsu is 15 days
Toshiba is 15 days (but will have 15% restocking fee if it's custom config)
Costco is 6 months

How many days you can return it is not important in this case. I try to say you have the right to return and get good/perfect product that you paid with your hard earned money.

It's not safe to assume that they all will take return for any reason. They may take it or they may not (or they may and it will cost you). Buyer beware and do some research before dropping a couple of grand:

Ibm's is still one of the better policies. Except for costco. They rock but that's why I pay for a membership.

Dell is 21 days not 30. Unless you are referring to dell canada, then it is 30 but they say they charge a 15% restocking fee.

Fujitsu won't let you return your laptop if you configure it (from the web site "Custom Configured Products (CTOs)— Custom configured products may not be returned for credit or refund. "),

Gateway is 15 days and: "YOU WILL BE CHARGED SHIPPING AND HANDLING OR RESTOCKING FEES TO RETURN PRODUCTS. "

So they have there bases covered

Apple charges a 10% restocking fee if you open the box.

Alienware charges a 15% restocking fee

third party vendors have much stricter policies, perhaps what the original poster was refering to:

PCCONNECTION: "computers and printers are returnable in the first 30 days for repair only. Computers, printers, LCD/DLP projectors, personal digital assistants (PDAs) and Quark products are not returnable for credit or exchange. "

NEWEGG: "May" charge a restocking fee. Will "only exchange for the same product" on most notebooks.

OUTPOST: "cannot accept returns or exchanges of certain products manufactured by the companies listed in the table below" then they go on to list IBM/ACER/HP/SONY/TOSHIBA/APPLE
