"Freeze" when scrolling (scroll key & trackpoint used)

#1 Post by jwege » Sat Sep 18, 2010 10:39 am

Hi all,

I have sometimes (I guess 5-10 times a day) the problem that, once I use the scroll function of the trackpoint, the function of the trackpoint freezes, so I cannot move the cursor or used the scroll feature any further.

In that cases, the cursor is converted in this symbol that signals the scrol to be enabled (the arrow and underlying little scrolbar).

The TP itself, however, is not frozen, so scitching to other apps is possible.

Further infos:
- It seems that this by 90% occours in Firefox when browsing a website.
- Sometimes, it helps to switch to other app via alt-tab and back to end the freeze
- sometimes I need to wait some seconds (5 to 10 usually) to have the system recover
- XP SP2, T42 /w 1400x1050 screen resolution
- 20 to 30 active windows, multiple browser sessions

Anyone that has any idea how to cure that symptom?

Thanks 1000 times

Perhaps when your antivirus software is updating itself is when this occurs. I find my system very sluggish at these times. Another possibility is Adobe Flash Player consuming high CPU cycles at certain times. You might be able to see what is going on with Windows Task Manager (ctrl alt del).

Thanks for your thoughts, GomJabbar.

Antivir is not the issuer. I get a splash screen after updates, so I would have recognized this happens at the same time-period. But the freeze happens at no specific times or circumstances - at lest I have not recognized anything like this yet.

Also, in Taskmanager I have not seen anything consuming so much power so far.

And the PC is not slow or non-reacting, not to get a wrong impression. It is fully functional. Simply the mouse will not react and move at the time-slice the freeze appears. It just freezes the cusror reaction and the trackpoint functionality as such.

Thanks

I remember that one time my brother was having issues with his mouse on a desktop PC. Turned out that it was a video driver problem. Not sure if that could be happening to you or not.

I have this exact same problem. Happens to me a few times a day. I have to go to Mouse in Control Panel using my keyboard then enable the Trackpoint again even though it already is checked. It's really annoying.

Does it occur in safe mode?
