T40 blurry, fuzzy, monitor static

#1 Post by wait » Thu Sep 23, 2010 7:46 pm

The appearance of my monitor appears to be garbled, rapidly moving static, blurry or fuzzy. The problem is not present when I boot the computer, but deteriorates after about 10 minutes. The problem does not appear when sharing the notebook’s monitor with an external monitor (TV) at the same time, either on the notebook monitor or on the external monitor. This started happening shortly after I upgraded the internal wireless 802.11bg to abg and replaced the keyboard. I have updated the video card driver and BIOS to the most recent supported versions which did not solve the problem.

I have great affection for my machine; possible causes, checks or fix suggestions are greatly appreciated. It is several years old and not under warranty.

Thanks, K

Thank you for the diagnosis. I'll admit the reflow repair is out of my league, but at least I know what to ask for when finding a pro to fix this.
I'll post repair results.
Thanks again. K
