Battery storage

#1 Post by ThinkPad » Sat Mar 12, 2005 1:41 pm

I just purchased a highcapacity battery for my thinkpad. But I only use it when travelling. For everday usage I use the standard battery.
My question, is there any harm being done to the battery just sitting there not doing anything. Meaning not in use or not charging.

Thanks

Suggested storage by ThinkPad experts (as informed to me):

Charge it to 40%, keep it in a ziploc/plastic bag and store it in a fridge. Ensure that the minimum charge is 40%. Checck the battery charge level atleast once a month.

Do not let the battery lie withour charging/ or less than 40% charge, since the chemicals in the battery may get adversely affected!

Thanks for the info. After I got back from my trip, I charged that battery and put it in the drawer. Its been sitting there since.

Just to point out that what I read from Battery University website is different. As long as the charge stays at about 20%, it should have its maximum lifespan. When it is at 40%, degradation is up by 15%.
