D'any of the T4x have Physica Add Extension (PAE) capability

#1 Post by portsample » Thu Oct 07, 2010 12:22 am

Do any of the T4x have Physical Address Extension (PAE) capability, or did that first start w/the T60s?

The new version 7.0 of VMWare Workstation will not run on hardware that does not support PAE. I've been using this on my T42 to access other OSes w/out a reboot. I'm wondering if a mobo and processor upgrade to T43 spec would solve this. Thanks.

If you look at the CPU capabilities in this thread as a result of the lshw command in Ubuntu, it lists PAE.

Hmm, at least for desktop CPUs, PAE was implemented sometime along the lines of Pentium 200 MHz or thereabouts. Support of it is often disabled by the OS, if it's a non-server OS (at least in Microsoft's case). I can't imagine why any thinkpads from the 200 MHz era and onwards won't support this.

EDIT: Ok, just noticed from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_Address_Extension that the 400 MHz bus versions of the Pentium M (i.e. those in the T40/T41/T42) do not support PAE. If that is true, it's simply just bad luck indeed. :(
