44 degrees C is nothing to be concerned about.

If you need it cooler, clean the fan and re-apply thermal paste. It likely won't drop much, though.

i cleaned the fan after removing the heat sink.
Now it is showing a higher temperature of 51 deg C.
Do I now get a thermal paste and apply it on the cpu?.

Normally you apply the paste to the bottom of the heatsink.

Also, give it at least 24hrs to settle...

notebook hardware control shows 42 and cpu thermometer shows 51.
why the difference?.
in fcat the bottom of my T41 at the cpu side ismuch cooler than what it was at 46
with cpu thermometer?
8) intresting figures.?.
i am just exploring ..not serious about the optimal or right values as long as it works...at 1600mhz.

I am going to get a paste and apply it on the cpu (top) and press the heat sink on that...
