T41 - backlight coming BACK on

#1 Post by lindros2 » Sat Mar 12, 2005 6:44 pm

This is my second ThinkPad T41 (completely different models), and I've had this problem now both times:

1. Screen saver comes on (as configured).
2. Shortly after ACPI screen blanking, the screen comes BACK on.

So if I go to sleep at night and wake up, the screen is (and has been) on.

It's very frustrating and happens with an IBM-supplied OS. I have all of the latest drivers installed and IBM tech support has been of zero help.

This happens to me too, both with my T42p and A20p. What I noticed is that the applications that you have running in the background are a factor. For instance, just today i noticed the screen cannot turn off when running Adobe Audition 1.5...
X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)

Turn off one by one until the screensaver sticks on. Start with those applications that did not came with your laptop.

As I said the same issue has happenned with me multiple times and that i recall it was always an application running in the backgroung or not the factor. (I usually test many software packages so this is a comom problem I go through too, so I started to restore the partition image very frequently and all the problems go away.
