Second battery causes system freeze in Windows XP

If there is only one battery in the system, the T43 works perfect. If I add the ultrabay battery, I get random lockups during XP boot or within a couple minutes of using the computer. I have 2 T43s that do the exact same thing. Any ideas?

That clearly points to the ultrabay battery not working correctly, resp. being faulty.
Replace it with another one to see if the problem persists.

I never imagined the battery being defective. If I push it in after it boots up, sometimes it runs for an hour or more before crashing. Other times, it will crash in a few minutes. I will get another battery and test that. Thank you.

Do these lockups happen only when running on battery, or even when running on AC with the battery just being installed.

That's a good question. They definitely happen when running on AC even if the batteries are fully charged. I did not test battery only. I will test that and post the results later today.
