T42 Missing Close lid Switch?

#1 Post by fefrie » Wed Oct 20, 2010 7:58 pm

How does this happen?

I've just recently gotten a t42 1400x1050 fingerprint reader. Nice, spent the whole weekend working on it getting it going. Once everything is installed, and there are alot of updates to deal with, I go to close the lid expecting the screen light to turn off and the laptop to go into standby.

Doesn't work.

I jam it with a pen and no resistance, and no feel of a contact switch.

This is a rather unconventional problem I've never had with refurbing laptops.

Now I have to unscrew the bezel and go in there and figure out what is happeneing.

Is there any thing that I should be aware of? Of course I'll look for a switch, broken or not first......

Actually no, on this laptop, it was just a straight memory swap so nothing major and no need to remove the bezel on it anywhere.

I will be taking this one apart and seeing where the switch is. Hopefully it is still there.

I have a sneaking suspicion that since this laptop was a custom to order laptop, some tech somewhere dented or broke the switch. I;ll only find out when I take it a part....

The lid switch is on the LCD cable and is probably broken.
