t41 v. t42

#1 Post by DPOP » Fri Jun 11, 2004 6:42 pm

I have been very confused by the transition in sales from t41 to t42. I am getting ready to start my freshman year of college and wan a mainstream notebook that can perform limited gaming. My university has an online quote generator that still only has t41's. Their bookstore catalogue has two t42 models. A 15 inch radeon 9600 model and a 14.1 inch model with radeon 7500 graphics. I really want a 14.1 (lighter, no ghosting) and radeon 9600, but it seems this may not even be possible. When i go to IBM direct i can't choose that configuration the way i could a few days ago. Does anyone have the skiny on these graphics options, as well as the significance of the larger cache on the t42. Is the 14.1 t42 definatively larger/heavier than the t41?

Thanks in advance

Yeah my school sent me a list of the computers on a Excel file. We dont have an IBM online code/site. On the top of all the pages it has the date when the get the new list. The list I got a week ago said April 22nd. When I emailed them on April seventh the next day I got a list that had been updated that very day. You should maybe check the site or school every month because I don't think they even know when IBM and other companies will be offering new models. The new list I got this week added T42s and X series models and even more T41 models.

That one there looks like it has what you want.

That will give you the "skinny" on the new architecture of the processor in the T42.

The T42 14" and T41 weigh the same and are the same size.

5.0 w/ 6cell battery, optical drive, and SXGA+ screen
5.4 w/ 9cell battery, optical drive, and SXGA+ screen

Go there for pics of the 14.1 and 15 models side by side.
