Putting a T42's drive into a T40
For sale locally at a great price is a T40 lacking a hard drive. At this point, I know nothing about its specs or operability.
To test the T40, what if I imaged a T42 drive (Win XP, 2373-NC1, Radeon 9600, 15", 1400 x 1050 Flexview) to a spare drive and stuck it in the T40? Is it madness to think it might actually boot into Windows?
Thanks for your help!

We do this all the time - or rather we have one HDD and put into all T40 - T43p Thinkpads to test them after repair; occasionally we need a specific driver for a particular video / wifi / ethernet / modem card, and if you do need one they are easy to get hold of from here.

If the T40 has Intel integrated gfx, it might not boot in normal windows because of your ATI drivers.
Start it up in Safe Mode (press F8 a few times on booting).

@RBS - does any version of T40 have Intel GFX?
We both know T43 does but I thought that was the only version.

AFAIK no T40/T41/T42 came standard with Intel GPU.
But someone could have swapped out the board for an R50, R50e or R51 mobo with Intel GPU.
