Need help in finding right connector...

#1 Post by thinkpad420 » Sat Oct 30, 2010 5:50 am

Hello,

I am looking to make use of the IBM Slim DVD drive in a different system. I noticed that it does not have the standard Slim DVD drive connector so, I am looking to find the right one.

The drive model is: UJ-822B.

Digging online, I found someone selling an external enclosure for this drive to connect via USB. However, I am looking for SATA type connection to use this drive in a HTPC system.

Please point me in right direction.

This HTPC system is a desktop system with available SATA ports? If the slim drive is from a T40, T41, T42, or T43 it has an IDE interface, so some type of adapter would be required if you can find one. I can tell you the connector on the IBM drive is proprietary.

Right!, that's exactly what I am looking for. The HTPC is (Home Theater PC) a desktop (mini-itx type) and it has standard SATA ports. One of them is being used by HDD to run Win7.

The idea is that this slim drive is laying around and fits perfectly into the slim desktop HTPC case. I didn't want to buy another DVD drive and wanted to make use of it.

Can you suggest an appropriate adapter?

Thank you! The picture does not show the connector for the Drive so it is difficult to say whether it works or not. Since the drive I have is Ultrabay Slim, it does not have the standard slim dvd connector found on most laptop drives...

Perhaps, this is proving to be too much of a hassle than to just buy a used / refurb'd slim dvd drive.....

thanks anyway for your help!
