Travel bezel on a t41p for lighter weight??

#1 Post by sneakyazn » Mon Mar 14, 2005 11:49 am

Does anybody know the weight of the travel bezel that replaces an optical drive in the media slot? I was thinking about purchasing one but i dont know exactly how much weight it will actually save. Also, the t41p has a listed weight of 5.5lbs. is this because of the 9-cell battery completely? if i were to switch it down to the 6-cell, would it reduce the weight to the 4.9 that is stated for the other t41s? Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

Yes, it's the battery that makes it heavier. All their other differences don't really amount to any significant weight, I would say the battery has at least 90% of the difference. It's not a bad idea to have a 6-cell travel battery, just remember that you are going to have 1/3 less time to work unplugged.

I am not sure about the Ultrabay bazel difference... It made a little difference with my old T30, but it was also a bigger optical drive. Ultrabay Slim seems pretty light as it is :)

Thanks for the comments. I think i read that the dvd/cdrw optical drive weighs about 0.76 pounds, but i could be wrong. if the bezel could shave off half a pound i would go for it just for portability. I am switching over from an x31 and would like to keep it as light as possible.

The travel bezel is about 3 pieces of plastic. Weighs about as much as one of Bill's feathers.

hmmm... do you think that if i were to use the plastic bezel in conjunction with a 6 cell battery, i could get the weight down to 4.25 pounds? or is that just crazy?
