Access Connection puzzle
Access Connection puzzle
I have a 2379-D5U T40 with XP SP2. This model has dual mode 801.11A/B with the current drivers and I am using Access Connections 3.53 (although this happened with versions prior to 3.53.)
My office is equipped with 100baseT and a Netgear 802.11A/B access point. My home has a DLink 764 802.11A/B router. My Access Connections configuration is set for priority to the wired Ethernet followed by the 802.11A and then the 802.11B. At home when I startup the T40 it looks for a wireless connection but always starts with the 802.11B link rather than the 802.11A which the priority setup would indicate should be first.
Has anyone seen this behavior and can suggest a solution to get the 802.11A to start by default? Thanks.

I would suggest upgrading your Access Connections to the new version (3.70). I have it and I have configured AC so that it connects with my 802.11B/G router at G and not B. It connects everytime on the dime. I've provided the link below:
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.ws ... g=en&cc=US

You will need the new 4.100.0.140 drivers in order to use the 3.70 version of Access Connections. Here is the link:
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.ws ... g=en&cc=US
Read the readme and the rest of the stuff on the link. It will tell you what the changes were and that it supports usage of AC 3.70. Let us know how it goes. There is one glitch though. You can read about it here:

Thanks.
I installed the 3.7 version and it seems to work as I want for the wireless. However now it is not working right with my office Ethernet
It seems to always want to connect to the wireless even though I have it configured for the wired Ethernet to have priority.
I think I'll delete all the profiles and start from scratch.

Don't bother. I have the 2200BG in my thinkpad and ever since I installed 3.70, access connections will not switch profiles automatically correctly. BUT....3.53 will do it just fine. The only problem I have with 3.53 is that everytime I manually switch a profile, I get an error saying QCTRAY.EXE has crashed. Sufficed to say, I sitll think 3.53 works better than 3.70.jsteele wrote:Thanks.

Ethernet works fine for me because I don't use AC for ethernet connections, only for 802.11x connections. The only problem that I have with AC is that the signal strength meter is wrong. It reports a much higher signal than windows does. For example: If I connect to an AP that has only a 40% signal strength with WinXP wireless config, AC reports it as 100% or so. It thinks it's much higher than it actually is. Basically, signal strength reporting in AC SUCKS.
