I mean 2GB RAM is the maximum a T41 can handle...

I know very well what you mean, but the original poster asks a question assuming that he would be able to theoretically even install the needed RAM.

I'll edit my post so that it's clear who I was replying to. :D

Oh, right, of course, what was I thinking.
I'm trying to match RAM to six different laptops. Some of the others take later made RAM in 2GB sticks.
You are correct sir. DDR sticks max out at 1GB.
If someone unwraps the golden fleece and finds 2GB sticks of DDR, or a unicorn poops some out, I'll post here for anyone who wants some.

can it use up to PC3200 but the laptop's clock will downgrade it to PC2100?
Is the T41's clock set for PC2100 or PC2700?
Thanks

T40 is PC2100. T41-T42 is PC2700. PC3200 should work and downclock just fine.

DDR is expensive!!!

1GB sticks are hard to find these days, and you are thinking about 2x 2GB strips, i am sure if they exist, they will cost a fortune

Caveat: not all PC3200 will work correctly!
PC2700 definitely works all the time.
You can buy any generic PC2700 Samsung/Micron/Hynix/Elpida Sodimm.
