T42 Windows XP
Windows won't start and I get the error message: "windows cannot start because the following file is corrupted or missing: <windows root>\ system32\ ntoskrnl.exe please reinstall the above file"
I have read what I can about the issue, but many of the threads are referring to Win 2000.
Sorry if this has been covered, but I am not sure how to reinstall the file.
I currently have my recovery CD running.
...and I am unable to update BIOS from the recovery console.
I can access BIOS Setup, but I do not know how to modify it.

You can do a Repair-install: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/usin ... oug92.mspx
If/when you want to update the BIOS, always use the CDROM (.iso file) version!
Wait with that anyway until your problem is sorted.

I was trying to avoid a complete re-install. I though I could just repair the file.
Regardless, I did try to re-install, but I was not given a complete set of cd's for the comp when I bought it.
Where can I get them? And will I have windows verification issues?

and another question....
I could make a full set from the recovery console, right? But where can I download the disks from the internet and use them?

There is nowhere to download the discs, but if you place a WTB Ad in the Marketplace forum, I'm sure someone can help you out for a reasonable price.
