Installing Hard drive in T42

#1 Post by wmf » Fri Jun 11, 2004 9:55 pm

Hi,
I am new to this group, so this is my first post. I have ordered a new T42 (2378FVU), unfortunately this model only includes the 40 gb drive, which is too small and slow for my taste. I bought the 2.5" HITACHI 7K60 drive which is 60 gb and runs at 7200 rpm. The question I have is simply how to install it. Do I need to buy a separate hard drive caddy or can I use the one off of the 40 gb drive which I don't intend on using.

Thanks.
Bill

Use the 40's caddy. The manual includes instructions
T61 7658-CTO
T42 2378-FVU (RIP)

So should we delete all partitions on the new 60GB hard drive,
boot from CD-ROM for Recovery,
and it will do the rest (create hidden partition, format new partition into NTFS, install OS, IBM programs, drivers, etc.)?

What are the exact procedure to do this?

Any help on this matter is much appreciated--for us in Hong Kong, the only machines that come with 60GB 7K60 is the T42p's, and these are MUCH more expensive (and i don't want to pay a very big premium for things i don't need-- Bluetooth, DVD-RW, 128MB video subsystem, etc.)
