Wonder why the T43p's are not on IBM's web site

#1 Post by rocketman » Tue Mar 15, 2005 10:26 am

When I ordered the T43p 2668-G2U I was quoted 45 days for delivery, now only about a week later I'm being quoted 20-25 days, this is via phone to IBM.
It surprises me that computers that are being quoted 20-25 day delivery are not listed on IBM's web site.

I too wondered why the T43P's or IBM's latest model computers are not listed on the IBM site. When I was initially looking for a laptop to buy all I saw on their site were over priced “normal computers”. By normal I mean other manufacturers has these same over priced specs for a fraction of the cost. Had it not been for this forum and the honest opinions of those on this forum I would have probably never knew how good and durable the T-Series and IBM machines are. Heck, had it not been for this forum I would have ordered some other laptop from some other xyz company, but because of this forum I waited MONTHS and invested over $3k on a laptop and I am still in college. This purchase may not have been the smartest thing, but it is an investment for the long-run.

It was the users of this forum that gave me a clue as to what the latest T-Series was or will be. The believe the least IBM could do is feature their latest models on their site or at least have the new company, Leveno, feature new machines on their site. And, it came to me as no surprise when I called a prep last night to inquire about my order, which was suppose to ship on the 14th of this month but did not, that only about forty T43p's have been ordered thus far. Eh, I am no business man but I would be skeptical about manufacturing more of my machines of sales were this low. I feel IBM would have probably gotten more sales if the general public knew more about these new releases. Hench, more people would probably order increasing the demand and dropping the price a little, but eh what do I know? I bet the majority of those who ordered a T43p are probably on this forum.

I'd be really surprised if only 40 T43p's have been ordered, that seems impossible. I guess there must be a reason to IBM's madness, as a company they are not too shabby) but I can't figure it out.

I would not be suprised if only about 40 t43p's were sold as of last night. When I ordered my t43p on 02/02/05 I was somewhere between the 1st and 10th person to order.

When I drove a ship we had this phenonomem (sp?) called "channel fever". Everyone acted a little squirly a few days before we hit our home port.

Could be that the IBM thinkpad business is flaking out in its final days as it pulls the big ole ship into home port for the last time.

That 43 number probably doesn't include what's being purchased through the corporate channel.

I ordered the following model T43 on Friday and just received an email that it has shipped:

2668-72U Pentium M 760 2.00 512MB 14.1" SXGA+ X300 80HS DVD±RW ✳ Intel 11a/b/g Mod/Blue Finger

I think that is pretty decent service! Does anyone know what state these laptops are shipped from? Are they shipped direct to the consumer from China or does IBM ship from a US based hub or multiple hubs?

Leon,

Are you saying that they ship direct from China to the end user? Why all the choices on the website for Ground, Second Day Air, Next Day Air??? I sure am glad I was cheap and chose the free Ground shipping option :D

They ship in "groups" (all pre-addressed with each users destination), and are separated at customs, usually in Alaska (but other places as well), and on to the final destination. Everything is Air from China (except if you choose the "paddle boat" shipping option), Ground would only apply for the US leg. Shipping times DO NOT include often substantial customs delays.

Truly JIT inventory, from the manufacturing site (China) to you!

P.S. Shipping is often upgraded.
