Error with IBM Active PRotection System on T42P

#1 Post by Marc_G » Tue Mar 15, 2005 11:38 am

Hi folks-

I'm getting an error on boot-up, after getting to the desktop, that the IBM Active Protection System - HDD Logger Module has encountered a problem and needs to close.

The actual active protection system stays up; I can go into the control panel and watch the realtime display.

I've tried uninstalling /reboot/ reinstalling without curing it.

The problem started immediately after I did some "surgery" on my system as described in a thread in the Windows OS forum. Basically deleted and recreated my partitions.

Any thoughts on what's going on here, and a fix?

Bummer; no responses!

I have gotten around this problem by setting to Manual the service IBM HDD APS Logging Service. TPHDEXLG.EXE

This eliminates the problem. The actual protection service still runs, so there's no threat to the system. I still don't understand why the problem cropped up or why an uninstall / reinstall of the Active Protection System didn't fix it.

Oh well. One more mystery fades into the ether...

I'm having the same problem on R51 after I updated IBM Active Protection.

I think I fixed it. Try following steps:

1. Uninstall IBM Active protection
2. Reboot
3. Open C:\Windows\System32 folder and delete TPAPSLOG.LOG and TPHDLOG0.LOG files there
4. Reinstall IBM Active protection (version 1.30b)
5. Reboot

Hi Puppy-

I gave it a shot. Unfortunately, after the final reboot, the error recurred. Same problem. So, I've set the logging service back to manual. Any other ideas?

If you have XP SP2 with all updates you might try this fix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894194/
