Wireless LED flashes

#1 Post by BranE » Tue Mar 15, 2005 7:08 pm

Some may be aware of my situation-- IBM doesn't have drivers for my Intel 2915abg wireless card.

I'm using a recent Intel driver but I have two problems:

1. The LED doesn't stop flashing when it's enabled (it flashes about 3 times in two seconds-- really annoying)

2. I can't turn the card on/off through access connections.

Are these common problems with common fixes? Can anyone help?
(IBM support is useless)

It flashes with network traffic. If there is absolutely no traffic (rare on my machine, something is always going on - I use CommView to check), then the LED is constantly ON. If there is traffic, it will flash.

Access Connections - Edit wireless profile. Adapter properties -> Check "Disable this wireless radio when I switch to a different location profile". Works for me (Version 3.7 and back to about 3.3 I think).

Is there a way to disable the flashing for those of us who find it a little annoying? I was watching it flash on my friend T42 and it seemed a little distracting.

Put a piece of black electrical tape over it.

My driver will not interact with access connections at all, so this does not work.

I think the only way to solve this problem is to either disable wireless, which would be pointless, or remove the clear plate the put a black tape behind the wireless sign.

AFAIK there is no way of turning off the flashing while you use wireless network.

Yes, stop watching it!

Seriously, unless you're consciously looking at it, you won't notice it at all.
