HELP with new T42p

#1 Post by misterpeachy » Fri Jun 11, 2004 11:00 pm

Hello-

I just got my 23737XU T42p in today with a 5400 80GB HDD. However, there seems to be a slight ticking noise which is starting to get on my nerves. It occurs independent of drive operation (e.g. it may happen in an idle state), and it happens at random intervals but with a relatively high frequency. It's a very light "tick" noise. Any comments? I think someone mentioned this before, ut I'd like to get some more opinions on it.

Thanks

-Mike M.

The HD heads ramp themselves for a couple of days in order to break the drive in. After two days of use the noise will go away.

Don't worry. I know it's annoying, but it is entirely normal.

It goes away. It is part of Windows' boot optimization process and once all the files are restructured on the platters to improve boot time, it'll go away.
