Seagate Barracuda for T43

#1 Post by rasmer » Fri Dec 03, 2010 7:46 am

Hello,
I know that this might be a stupid question for some, but can someone confirm that Seagate Barracuda 250 gb sata (Model: ST3250823AS) is compatible with T43. My old hdd broke and I would like to replace it with the Barracuda. Just want to be sure that it will work. :)

Thanks ahead,
rasmer

Nope, it won't work. :( . T43's need PATA hard drives. The biggest you can get is a 320GB Western Digital, I think WD has also some drives in the 250GB area.

You can use the SATA HDD with a modification to the motherboard by removing PATA->SATA bridge chip and soldering the SATA cable wires directly to motherboard.

Hi Rasmer

Just make sure is a 2.5" PATA drive. If you don't need the biggest size go for a single platter 5400RPM model. I have a 320GB WD drive in my T43p and it works great! It's fast and quiet.

Now if you have the original BIOS, almost every new HDD model will trigger the infamous 2010 error. Check this thread to see how to get rid of it. I did it in my TP as well and it worked without any issue.

My 0,02 cents...
