T42p (2373-Q1U) and the Mini-Dock - Couple of questions

#1 Post by kuykendc » Wed Mar 16, 2005 2:55 pm

Hi there. I just purchased a T42p with the 9-cell battery and a mini-dock. I'm not sure that I'm attaching it correctly. Everything works but it just doesn't seem to be seating fully into the mini-dock. The front edge of the laptop is a little wobbly and if I look at the bottom of it I can see that it isn't fully plugged into the connector. In the instructions it says that it should "click" into place and mine never does that. Maybe I'm not pressing down hard enough but I'm kind of scared to press any harder than I already am. Just wondering if this is normal?

Also, using the 9 cell battery it seems to be really pressing up on that little plastic "flap" on the mini-dock that the battery slides under... just wondering if this is normal also or should I remove the battery before plugging it into the dock.

This is the first time I've used a Thinkpad with any dock and it just doesn't seem to be as "solid" a connection as I was expecting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!
Kirk

This may sound stupid but are you 'sliding' back the top of the mini doc to give you more room?

The minidock I have has a plastic 'top' that slides forwards and back, when I slide mine all the way back, the 9cell is no hinderance to 'locking' the machine down.

Patmandu -

Thanks for the response. I do have it slid back as far as it will go. I might try to take a picture of it and post that so that people can take a look at it and maybe get a better idea of what I'm seeing.

Thanks again!

hi Kirk,

When I get home tonight, I'll put the 9cell in and put the machine in the dock and see if anything pops out at me as different. I'll also do a compare between the 6cell and 9cell in hopes of finding if it takes more 'push' to get the dock to engage the laptop. I'll snap pics as well if you think it will help you at all.

Here's a picture (apologize for the quality... it's a phone-cam pic)...

I believe your TP 9-Cell battery should push the flap DOWN. You should not be prying it up.

I found that unless the dock is left "unlocked" the flap will not go down, so make sure it is unlocked first.

The flap definitely should be down.

Thank you so much for the replies. I can't believe that I was sliding the battery underneath there... even looking at the picture I didn't notice that I had plenty of room to dock the machine with that flap down. Thanks again to everyone for the help and the link to the video... docking it with that flap down I'm now getting a much more solid connection.

Cheers!
Kirk
