#1 Post by sokerjunky » Sun Dec 12, 2010 9:04 am

hi im new to this... and i really need help I have a t42 thinkpad laptop... my old hard drive crashed on my laptop so i got a new one. i installed it and evertthing went fine until i tried to access my wifi. I hit the hot key Fn+f5 and it said i had not installed any adapters my laptop has intergrated wifi so i thought i didnt have to install anything... i thought it would have to be something with the drives so i went to the ibm lenovo website and got the wireless drives and installed them then i ran them and i restarted my computer. then i tried it again and it still didnt work what should i do im at my witts end trying to figure out what to do :|

hi sok*
might be missing drivers...
go here and check for the latest driver for your relevant MODEL and Wrireless TYPE
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... -MATRIX#hp
(note there are multiple TYPES of wireless that was offered in T42 series machine - so its important to get the RIGHT DRIVER to the MATCH the 'hardware installed'))

cheers

How did you install the driver? With most Lenovo/IBM install executables it is simply a zipped file, that once executed unzips it's contents into a sub folder of C:\DRIVERS\Win. You have to go in there and look for the wireless driver folder and then run the setup.

Is the wireless adapter listed in device manager? Please provide a link to the drivers you installed.

Boot up a Live Linux CD and see if it works there. In Windows, even if the drivers are not installed correctly it should show up in device manager as an unknown device or some type of generic ethernet device. I suspect you have a hardware problem. The Linux CD will prove that one way or the other.

@sokerjunky: Your problem sounds very similar to a problem I had recently with an R50e. See this: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=92356

I hope it helps.

Worthy Down is a mere sneeze from here. PM when next in the area. We can drown our sorrows or drink to our cricket teams over the Ashes.
Good luck ... but not in the cricket.
