Fan on T22
As a new member and new notebook owner I hope to get some help.
1. I never seem to hear the fan running or feel any air movement from the exhaust grille area. Could this mean the fan is not running.
2. The bottom of my T22 seems to be very hot on left side under the grille (exhaust) area but my Hd drive seems to make noises. Thanks for any advice and keep up the great work on such a good site.

I noticed the same phenomenon in my T22 just today... Apparantly, (and please correct me if I'm wrong) the T22 will fire up the fan only if needed...
If you've got speedstep activated, your processor is going to cycle way back on battery mode, which saves power in itself, and also produces much less heat...
Get your self mobile meter, http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-Oakland/8259/, and if your processer temp sits pretty low with the fan off, don't worry about it...
Once you're monitoring it, you could block the exhaust ports to see if you can force it on, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Skeet are fun to shoot, but they're real hard to cook...

My T22 (2647-4EU) Also stays quite warm under the left side of the notebook. It is warmer under the CPU than the HD, but not by much.
I find the fan runs often while on AC, but much less on battery. And while on battery, when the fan does run, the air movement is so slight that you cannot really feel it on your hand, but as odd as it sounds, if you put the notebook near your face, you can feel the air moving on your cheek or nose.
I know this is odd, but I noticed it once, when my 2-1/2 year old decided to climb on me while I had the TP on my lap. Had to lift it fast and get it out of his way, that is when I noticed the air flow....

I would guess that Speedstep makes that much of a difference... Save power on the slower cycle. Slower cycle, less heat, less heat, less need for a fan...I find the fan runs often while on AC, but much less on battery.
And I wouldn't consider it odd to feel the air with your cheek or nose easier than your hand, also the eyes... Much more sensitive than the fingers or palms to a slight breeze...
Under the hard drive on the T22 are the memory slots... In fact, everything that produces serious heat is located on the left side of the unit, which is downwind, (in the microclimate of the cooling system of the case) from the battery and ultrabay...
I use my T22 as a bed warmer on occasion... (j/j)[/quote]

T22 P3 900. Win XP. For some reason fan really kicks on when CPU is at 75 C. Than you can feel air coming out of laptop. I have been trying to set fan speeds to lower temperatures. Thing is, there is no such utility supporting T22. If you have T23, T4x or other new models, you can try TP Fancontroller utility. Speedstep makes this bit cooler. I was looking for stronger fan as well, but as far as I know 26P is the strongest one, that fits. If you have any experience upgrading T22 fan please let me know.
