T40p resurrection

#1 Post by kge420 » Thu Jan 13, 2011 9:48 am

I just purchased off ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 1139wt_690) this T40p. My T40 suffered a broken lcd hinge and while searching for a replacement I came across this item. I will evaluate the case condition and decide which to use. My main concern is the bios security chip. I would like to take advantage of the better graphics of the T40p but the bios is locked. Can I swap The T40 security chip for the one in the T40p? I have experience with board level repair so the removal/replacement of components isn't a roadblock. Also would like to use the cpu from the T40. I upgraded to a 1.8ghz Dothan. In theory it looks like I have a possible major upgrade for very little cost.
Thanks, Keith

No, you can't swap the chips to fix the BIOS password issue, and we won't allow discussion here about how to do defeat a BIOS password. Any other questions about the T40P?
