Easy way to unlock the ThinkPad BIOS - It is an IBM feature!

FYI:
So you thought your Thinkpad is safe, because it has the security chip and a lot of passwords? Think again! Ever wondered how overnight your company Thinkpad got new updates?

I stumbled over this artice in PC Professional 4/2005
(http://www.vnunet.de/testticker/Portabl ... Ref=pc-pro)
Attn: you need babelfish

Any Thinkpad can be unlocked within seconds, using network connection (Wake-On-Lan is enabled by default) and a simple freeware tool. Then you can override the BIOS within seconds and access the notebook.

When asked about this (potentially) severe security gap, the IBM spokesman Stefan Pieper explained >It is not a bug. It is a feature!<

Halleluja!!

sorry that's not true. Wake On Lan is NOT enabled per default. At least not for my T40p with the Intel Pro 1000 driver (just look into the device manager -> network cards). And I asume that everyone who is activating WOL is knowing what he is doing. I don't see here any problem at all. It's a feature for remote admins.
