RAM problem?

#1 Post by PetraM » Sat Mar 19, 2005 12:10 pm

1.
I have a T42p 2373-gxg running win XP SP1. Sometimes when moving large folders on the hard drive a suddenly get a blue screen saying "page fault in nonpaged area"; stop: 0x00000050 (0xf8DEC000, 0x00000000, 0x80528FEC, 0x00000000); beggining dump of physical memory, memory dump complete. It doesn't name any specific file. Then windows create a minidump folder with a .dmp file

The folder I want to move that's causing crashes always has subfolders and the only way to move it is to move just the subfolders. You can never tell which one it will be.
It also happened couple of days after fresh factory settings restore so I guess it's not MS' fault this time. Could it be faulty RAM? Anybody else experienced this?

2.
I also have this minor issue with Active protection system. The protection itself is working ok but the icon in the system tray and TPshocks.exe doesn't load up at startup. The box "show icon in system tray" is checked. TPshocks.exe shows in msconfig and HKLM-...-Run. If I open APS in control panel and click ok, only then does the icon appear.
I got used to the icon and it would be nice to have it back.

Any thoughts or suggestions on both issues are very welcome.

Thanks,
Petra

I think problem 1 is caused by memory or harddisk. maybe you need get your memory changed or use HD tune scan your harddisk

PAGE FAULT IN NONPAGED ETC.

#3 Post by scrannel » Mon Jun 27, 2005 9:51 am

Hi,

Have an X-30 and suddenly was getting stop error/blue screen with "page fault in nonpaged..." message. I undocked to remove all peripherals, (II was getting the message undocked too) ran Microsoft memory test from USB floppy, went into msconfig and unchecked everything I could. No luck. I was still getting the crash between 1 - 3 times a day. So, I (I'm in Xp pro) right clicked on "My Computer" clicked on properties, clicked the "advanced" tab, then "performance settings", "advanced", and under virtual memory I clicked "change". Then I selected "no paging file". I clicked "set" and restarted my computer. After restart I went back into the same virtual memory screen, checked "custom size". Then I chose "2000" for my maximum memory and then "1500" for initial size (I have an 80gb HD about 50% full). I then clicked "set" (then restarted, though not sure you need to). Have not had the error since. Remember in the old Win 98 days when you could delete and then recreate your virtual memory file? I believe this is essentially the same thing.
