Excuse me but what does Dell have to do with IBM? Besides the possibility that the LCD vendors used by both companies might be the same I'm not seeing the relation here.

Also, UXGA (1600x1200) and apparently even QXGA (2048x1536) have been available on 15" models since the T42 was introduced.
IBM ThinkPad T42p (2373-7XU): 1.8GHz/1024MB, 15" UXGA, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.
T42 (2374-3VU): 1.7GHz/512MB, 14.1"SXGA+, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.

Are you trying to say that Dell's have UXGA too? If so then that's old news. My old Dell Inspiron 8100 has the 15" UXGA screen. 1600x1200 is tiny but it has it's own uses. I wish IBM would have built-in touchscreen's or at least optional touchscreen overlays for it's notebooks. I know of a couple of manufacturers and they're not that expensive... about $150+- or so for a 15".

The 15" UXGA IPS display predates the T4X series. First IBM with one was the A30p.

Correct, and I wouldn't be surprised if the same 15" panel was used in other computers from other manufacturers as well. But this thread was about the T-series, and the first 15" with SXGA+ and UXGA (and XGA) was the T42. I should have clarified my post by stating "15" T-series" though.
IBM ThinkPad T42p (2373-7XU): 1.8GHz/1024MB, 15" UXGA, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.
T42 (2374-3VU): 1.7GHz/512MB, 14.1"SXGA+, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.
