What kind of Information is stored there ? At the "Security-chip" ??
Sorry for my silly question

Hi, if the chip is near to the LPT port then it should be security chip.
Current: T420
Previous: T400, T43p Flexview, T40, R52, T43p 14"
My first ThinkPad was 570

The security chip holds specific data that, together with a private key, can encrypt your passwords for accessing Windows, websites, etc.
The (unique) private key only works with that specific motherboard. If you lose the chip, the board becomes useless.
You also cannot use that chip on another mobo!
