t42 bluetooth and mobile phone tools

#1 Post by ellinj » Sun Mar 20, 2005 7:37 pm

Hi, I am trying to get motorola mobile phone tools and my T42 to talk to each other. Mobile phone tools can't seem to locate my V551 when I put it in discoverable mode. The IBM bluetooth panel seems to be able to find it but that only lets me use the phone as a modem. The motorola stuff is supposed to let me sync with the phone and do other cool stuff.

Any idea whats wrong?

This technology is supposed to be easy to setup but some phone makers has design it poorly.

A cell will use two ways of connecting to PC. One is straight forward for sendng files. The other is by using the software that came with the phone (or third party ones). You are probably are trying to use the first method with the software.

In your phone unit find how to connect "with PC Software" rather than Bluetooh. Once you had chousen PC software or something like that, another menu will come up, and is then whne you choose Bluetooth. That was with my Sharp GX15 cell
X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)

I got it to work. I paired the phone using the IBM driver. When I loaded motorola mobile phone tools, I skipped the automatic detection and selected the phone manually from the available "modems" I can now sync my phonebook with outlook.

I just wanted to say that I purchased a USB cable for my Motorola phone yesterday, and was looking around for info on Mobile Phone Tools for the first time ever...and lo and behold this topic pops up on the thinkpad forum.

Talk about serendipity and synchronicity!

I just got a V710. Where did you pick up your copy of MPT?

Apparently MPT is a 20-30MB download, so I didn't bother trying it. Also, since I just wanted direct filesystem access to photos and ringtones, I just ended up using a freeware program called PKMan, which includes the Motorola USB driver.

I found a few links to MPT 3.11 from the afterdawn.com forums (link removed). I don't know if you have to pay for MPT, so I apologize in advance if this turns out to be a pirate link.
