Power Manager for Windows 2000 professional on T43P
Power Manager for Windows 2000 professional on T43P
Hi,
Due to software limitation, I had to install Windows 2000 professional on my T43P, but met problem while installation Power Manager V1.51a, which said support Windows 2000 on the ThinkPad device driver matrix.
From the readme of the driver, it said that the setup requires the .NET Framework 3.0 or later, which doesn't support Windows 2000. So I can't install the Power Management feature since I can't install .Net Framework 3.0 on the Windows 2000.
So any one know how can I install Power Manager on Windows 2000?

Re: Power Manager for Windows 2000 professional on T43P
Thanks, it did solve the problem. But I met another problem after Access Connection installed. It will show a message said the failed to find the file PfMgrApi.dll, and I can't find this file on my system. I've tried to install/inuninstall several times and also tried both version 5.12 and 4.42, same message and also I can't enable the WLAN. How can I solve it?

Have you installed the power manager driver? (I would reccomend using system update - this will find all drivers you need, and all dependancies)

Uninstall Access Connections and let Windows manage your connections.

This is what I would normally do, but I never tried it on Win2K. Does Win2K have a built-in wireless manager? How does it compare to the one in XP and later installments?RealBlackStuff wrote:Uninstall Access Connections and let Windows manage your connections.

windows 2000 has no wireless management. I found access connections to be the best option, but there are other options (I can't remember them right now - I have not used 2000 in a while)

No, there is no wireless management option in Windows 2000, even latest fixpack installed.
I've tried to install/uninstall several times, but still same error message shows.
One thing is interesting is that although the error message shows, I can still use Access Connection and also create/adopt profile, but I can't active the WLAN adapter, even the WLAN LED is shinning.
I installed the Ehternet driver, WLAN driver, Power Manager driver, and then Access Connection. Did I missed something, or should I change the install procedure?

Re: Power Manager for Windows 2000 professional on T43P
Something wrong here...
The version of W2K (a corporate one) that I've been using does allow for wireless management...don't have the machine by me, but know this for a fact. It might be specific to this particular preload, although I would doubt it.
But let's put that one aside...my advice would be, depending on the wireless card in that T43p (Intel or IBM/Atheros) to use the utilities provided by the chip manufacturer.
Good luck.

erictsui, is there any reason for you why to stay with Windows 2000? With Windows XP you get newest drivers updates from Lenovo and unlike the Win2000 you get critical & security OS updates too (XP is supported till 2014)!
I think that each T4x machine was delivered with Windows XP COA label, so go to obtain the installation CD and enjoy the advantages of supported operating system
