Questions about T43 availability

#1 Post by aamsel » Sun Mar 20, 2005 11:57 pm

Not sure why, but the (3) T43 models on IBM's regular and VISA website are XGA only.

In the FAQ it says:
"(new**) The best buy is probably the T43 266846U (P M
750 (1.86), 512MB RAM, 40GB 5400rpm HDD, 14.1
1400x1050 TFT LCD, 64MB ATI Radeon X300, 24x24x24x/8x
CD-RW/DVD, Intel 802.11b/g wireless(MPCI), Modem(CDC),
1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip, 6c Li-Ion,
WinXP Pro 3 year warranty) for about $1700 with
education/alumni or mastercard/visa/amex/discover
discount"

However, I don't see this model anywhere.

try selecting 'view all models' instead of only those 'in stock'

I don't know the answers to your specific questions, but am also looking regularly at IBM's site and see only the three T43's you mentioned.

I'm positive that a few days ago I saw a T43 model with flexview SXGA+ screen and discrete graphics (not sure which card), but it was not there long.

I'm becoming increasingly impatient with the delay in getting the full arrayof T43's listed and available for sale.

I'm ready to replace my Dell Inspiron 8100, which is now 3 1/2 years old, still working, but creaky and in need of upgrade, and REALLY want an IBM T43 -- still disappointed they discontinued the A series ! - but don't know how long I can wait.

My alternatives are a Dell Latitude D810 and the new HP business notebook whose number I don't remember ; the D810 is available fully customizable, but the new HP still has limited options (no UXGA screen, for example), so I guess it's not just IBM that does these limited roll-outs.
Also, both the Dell D810 and the new HP notebook I looked at, have a 15.4" widescreen format screen, which I don't want. I really want a regular 4:3 ration 15 inch screen; I'm used to this screen, it's the perfect size for me, and I do not want to lose a full inch of vertical space for an extra inch of witdth, which I don't need. And another thing -- the Dell has an Alps touchpad, which I find to be inferior hardware compared to the Synaptics pads; I never use an external mouse, only the touchpad, and want the best one available.

So can anybody give us a definite date when all the T43's will be available for sale ?

Thanks !

I see no tab for "in stock" models.
I do have "view all models" selected.
Still only 3 T43 models shown.
It has been this way for weeks.

i placed a "test" order for a T43, 266897U and it shipped the next day..
it is a 15inch 1050x1400 display model with all the options..
i don't know what ibm is doing by hiding most of the good T models and not listing them on their web site..

if anyone cares, i have a bunch listed on thinkpads.com..
here, on the new web site..
http://www.thinkpads.com/postnuke/index ... enu&meid=3

the "april" T43 and T43p general availability models should ship soon..

Maybe they are trying to clear out the current T42 stock, and they figure that people that want T43's will call and ask for them??

I've highlighted the buying FAQ in my signature.

To see available models, look in the tabook.pdf (link listed in the FAQ).

Instructions for seeing pricing on all models in is in the FAQ as well as well as the name of a reliable rep to call in case of questions.

First of all thanks for the excellent FAQ.

However as the OP states the FAQ is in error:

"To get the retail prices of all models (along with educational discounts) select the second link below, then Thinkpad Notebooks link, then select "All products" from the first drop down box."

Your instructions only show the prices on 5 out of the 20 or so T43/T52 models.

Perhaps take out the "all" and after the links state:

"If the price for a model listed in the TABBOOK is not available, contact IBM sales at 1800whatever or one of the REPS below".

Thanks again for the execelent reference.

No, it lists all of the models. Be certain you are selecting All Products in the drop down box

My bad. I missed the "select the second link below, " and must have been selecting everything but the second link.

Nice find. How did you come up with that?

Is there a similar magic link for the EPP site?

What's really odd is that the 15" SXGA T43 model 266897U is showing "24 in stock" but it does not show up on the EPP or public page even when you search for it by model number.

Also the T43P (and every other 15" UXGA) are showing "60 days" doh. Thought they were out in april looks more like late may?

I knew thinkpads are expensive but this guy cracks me up:

2687E7U
Your price: $94,999.99
Web price: $99,999.99

Highlights
EXP T43 FINGERPRINT PENT M 750 14" SXGA OPEN BAY

For each discount schedule there are two different discounts.
One for regular models.
One for express models.

You can get the retail prices from the site as suggested and then apply the EPP (or whatever discount) for the model type.
