My mint T43p has a bad screen now?!

#1 Post by Immortal LuD » Tue Feb 22, 2011 4:27 pm

Hey guys! Long time no talk!

I have had my current T43p for quite a while now, and has never given me a single issue until recently...

I pulled her out of her sleeping bag after not being used for around five or six months now, and the 14.1 SXGA screen now has a blue, verticle line going through the entire screen, right of center.

So my guess, is that it's toast. And now I don't know what to do. I don't want to give my baby up after all we've been through, and I don't know if I'm able to tackle the job of fixing this myself.

Would you guys have any ideas? I haven't heard many issues like this on here, and I haven't found anybody that could replace the screen for me.

With the help of the HMM you have 2 options:
1) replace just the LCD itself (cheaper but more work)
2) replace the whole lid incl. LCD. (costs a bit more, but is quite easy)

I was hoping this line would go away, but I guess that won't be happening. :)

I have found many LCD's to purchase online, with and without the bezel. I should have figured... $50-$100 isn't so bad for an SXGA replacement, so I guess I will give it a shot and hope I can continue to keep my Thinkpad for many more years!

Thanks!
