Can not install/uninstall Power Manager on T43p with win 7

#1 Post by windv » Tue Mar 01, 2011 8:00 am

Hi,
a few days ago i tried to update my current version of PowerManager(I think 1.60a or something like that), since i saw there is a newer one-3.40. During the installation I got a massage saying that the older version should be uninstalled, but i got an error there. As far as i remember, durring the installation I also got some error for missing files , but it finished. After i restarted the system , the battery was no longer recognized. I still had the options ''High Performance'', ''Maximum Battery Life'' etc. But the program said there is no battery installed.
I tried to uninstall all current versions of power manger from control panel, which didn't work. At one point there were 3 installed programs named Power Manager.
One was "Power Manager Driver", and 2 other power manager installations - the new and the old one.
The newer did uninstall , but the older didn't.
I also tried to remove it with another software, which was also not successful, it just removed the program from the list. I also ran some registry cleaner, but no change.
Now i have no power manager icon anywhere, but when I try to install some version (and i found only those on lenovo's site) I get the same massage that there is an older version, which must be uninstalled before proceeding with the installation of the new version, but when I click yes, nothing happens.
I think if I find v1.60/1.60a it might work out, since this is the one I used to have, but I can not find it anywhere.
I do Not want to reinstall Windows just because of that.
Any suggestions are most welcome.
Thank you,
Ven.

G'day Van;
I think if you do a search on this forum re PM & Battery ...you will see lots of pple have kinda found this point the HARD WAY

Lenovo Thinopads = NEEDS to have the follwing
REAL LENOVO BATTERY (fully charged)
REAL Lenovo Power adaptor ( its possible to do wqithout this /bypass etc)
....THINKPAD BIOS VESION - is impoetant (is possible to bypass this requirements)

to Install /Update cetain apps ( PM , BIOS are a few to name)...
(ensure you have ADMIN RIGHTS)

Not sure if you have these ,,,, which might resolve the issue.

Nope this is helpful

I can't answer your question definitively, but I believe you are being confused by two different power management drivers. There is "ACPI Power Management" aka "ThinkPad Power Management driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit), XP (32-bit, 64-bit), 2000, ME, 98 SE - ThinkPad" version 1.61, and there is "Power Manager" aka "Power Manager for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPad" version 3.40.

On my T42, I was able to install the ACPI Power Management driver, but did not try to install "Power Manager". "Power Manager is not really supported on the T42 anyway under any Windows OS.

In Windows Device Manager, see what is showing for System devices > ThinkPad PM Device > Driver. I show driver provider Lenovo, date 11/18/2009, version 1.60.0.4.

Also check in 'Programs and Features' in Control Panel. I believe you should see 'Lenovo System Interface Driver' installed. If it is not installed, install the Hotkey utility driver. Also I show the ThinkPad Power Management Driver installed in Programs and Features.

All the drivers can be downloaded and installed from the following link:

hey GomJabbar thank you. That shed some light on the situation.
The PM Driver is 1.61 and is properly installed. No issues there, the Sys interface Driver is also installed (but also did a reinstall just now) , but as far as Power Manager, which is supported by my t43p, i find no solution. And I find it purposeful and have gotten used to using it. I could change the power options by pressing Fn+F3, but now nothing happens when i do that.
When i try to install any of the versions present on this page -
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-70601
I get the massage that there is an older version that must be uninstalled to proceed, but it can't uninstall.
Since that happened , the whole system works somehow slower.
I found someone with the same issue on this site, but also without any solution.

@ ausmike
I have an original power adapter, the battery is not the original one, but it has worked flawless for more than an year now, the problem occurred after i attempted to update the power manager software.
Thanks for the help!

I am not sure that your problem is the same, but you might be able to straighten things up with a solution (PowerCfg.reg file) as posted in this thread.

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18823

If you want to chance it, here is the PowerCfg file from my T42 in Windows 7.

I know this is a very old thread, but I just ran into the same problem (11/10/15). In case anyone else runs across this, I have found a solution: Open Regedit, then search for and delete all instances of PWRMGR and PWRMGRV. After those are gone, Power Manager will install.
