Which T43P should I get?

#1 Post by kanate » Tue Mar 22, 2005 5:46 pm

I'm about to order T43P and come to final 2 options.

2687-D5U (Express Model)
P M 760 2.00GHz
1 GB
15.0" UXGA 128MB V3200
80HS
DVD±RW
Intel 11a/b/g
Mod/Blue
Finger
9 cell
(List price $2999)

2668-H2U
P M 770 2.13GHz
1 GB
15.0" UXGA 128MB V3200
60U
DVD±RW
Intel 11b/g
Mod/Blue
Finger
9 cell
(List price $3879)

H2U is about $200 more than D5U after EPP discount. Both have 3 Year Warranty.

Which one should I get? Which one will have better re-sale value in case i want to sell it after a year or so?

Thanks

I'd prefer the 60GB 7200RPM drive over the slower 80GB HDD. The CPU speed difference would barely be noticeable but the 60GB disk is the deciding factor for me - but it's your choice at the end of the day!!!

Personally I would go for the second one, just because I am a huge fan of the 7200 drive. That with the extra CPU speed isn't too bad for the extra $200. You aren't going to notice the slightest differene in CPU speed, but it will have a higher resale value than the slower model. Over all they are pretty tied in value.

i don't really understand their pricing at all. How can Express model has much lower listed price? If i get Express model, it will be like i'm only save just a little more than some place else (Visa discount or other retailer). But with H2U regular model, I save a lot more ($1500 in saving). With the difference in listed price, how can they sell their regular model?

hmm tough choice.

With a 60 day ship time listed on the T43P, I'd take a month or two thinking about it.....

I'd probably go with the 80 gb hard drive. I've read that it is not much slower than the 60gb for real world apps.

Thinkexpress models are cheaper because they are prebuilt?

The T43p is supposed to be shipping at beginning of April as I recall. Can't believe the web site.

Thinkexpress models is just a marketting thing as far as I know.

As I understand, Express, especially P, model should be a model that lack some high-end config, eg. DVD writer, less RAM, slower HDD, etc. but this 2687-D5U is as good as high price one (only slower HDD and CPU that should be about $300 price difference in total).

If Express is their marketing things. I'd say their maketing is really bad by price one model $1000 less while it should be about $200-$300 less than other models. Without very great discount (EPP), no one will want to buy the higher price one.

If I dont have access to EPP discount, D5U is definitely a winner.

And 2668-H2U is supposed to be top of the line? Why only intel B/G? :?

15" T43p is shipping next week? Is the web site that wrong?

The website lists the earliest shipdate for the 14" as 20 days. The earliest shipdate for 15" T43p is listed is 60 days. Sure it's not accurate but I would think it would be within at least + or - a month?

Has anyone ordered a 15" T43P and recieved a shipdate yet? Care to share?

Could anyone tell me how many % off for Express model using other discounts (CreditCard, Education, etc.)?

I talked with IBM Sale Rep. and there's 45 days wait time for T43P
