T43 to T42p screen upgrade problem
T43 to T42p screen upgrade problem
Hi. I got a second hand T42p screen UXGA with whole assembly for my T43 with radeon graphics. When connected to a base a backlight turns but there is no picture. Does it mean the screen is faulty or there is something that has to be done to make it display. Thanks

Re: T43 to T42p screen upgrade problem
Welcome to the forum!
That setup should work "out of the box". I'd suspect a bad LCD cable, loose connection or possibly the panel itself.
Do you have access to another T4x unit?

Re: T43 to T42p screen upgrade problem
i will have another t4x soon and i also have t60p. my t43 works fine with XGA screen but when UXGA connected there is no picture. i found that t43p has different PN uxga cable than t42p. does it matter? what is your suggestion?

Re: T43 to T42p screen upgrade problem
XGA and (SXGA+ or UXGA) use a different LCD cable and a different inverter.
In my HMMs for T40/1/2 and T43, the UXGA/IPS parts are identical between T42 and T43.
Like ajkula66 said, it should work OOTB.
Check if you see ANYthing at all from ANY angle on that UXGA screen. It might need a new CCFL.
If you need help and want to wait that long, I'm coming home in July....

Re: T43 to T42p screen upgrade problem
Hi. I can see that the backlight works fine. checked it with both inverters. XGA inverter works with it but has a different shape so it wouldn't fit in the housing. From about 20-30 degree angle i can see that screen is kind a "waving" from top to bottom. Not noticeable when i look at it straight. If you say that the cables are identical in T42P and T43P why do they have a different PN? July is too long but thanks for the offer and your help.

Are you sure you have a T43 with ATI GPU? It won't work on an Intel GPU.
What is the 7-character TYPE/Model on the bottom of the T44?
Looks like TYPE 2373-4BU

Re: T43 to T42p screen upgrade problem
Let's get one thing straight:
UXGA LCD calls for an UXGA cable, the same goes for SXGA+ and XGA respectively, when it comes to T4x generation. The same applies to inverters.
Having said that, the inverters for any T4x should be of the same size even if their specs and FRUs are not identical.
If you have swapped the entire LCD assembly from T42p, there should be no issues whatsoever.
My suggestion would be to wait for the next T4x to arrive and test the assembly with it...
I'd still consider the cable and/or connection as prime suspects, as I have done this customization myself a number of times with no problem.
Good luck.

Re: T43 to T42p screen upgrade problem
The model is 2668-CTO
Product ID is 2668W13
I'm waiting on a new UXGA cable for T42P screen not T43P and i'm thinking that i should have gone for a cable for T43P as it has a different PN but we'll see if new one makes any difference. I looked closer at the cable but didn't notice any damage and all pins in connectors look fine.

Re: T43 to T42p screen upgrade problem
The only difference that can be between the two is that the new one works while the old one doesn't.
That, however, will have nothing to do with the FRUs and PNs.
Good luck.

Re: T43 to T42p screen upgrade problem
Product: ThinkPad T43 2668-W13 [change]
Operating system: All [change]
Original description: Based on 2668-CTO: P M 750(1.8GHz), 1GB RAM, 40GB 5400rpm HDD, 14.1in 1024x768 LCD, 128MB ATI FireGL V3200, 24x-8x DVD, Intel 802.11abg wireless(MPCI), Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip, 6 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro
The problem I see here, is that your T43 is a 14.1" machine, and the T42p screen with UXGA is 15".
The motherboard can handle that screen, but your T43 chassis is too narrow for it!

Re: T43 to T42p screen upgrade problem
The chassis will be changed to 15" as soon as i get the screen to work. All parts are there waitng for the bloody screen to work so that's not an issue.

Re: T43 to T42p screen upgrade problem
It turned to be faulty. Got another one cheap with faulty ccfl. Repalced it with one of the faulty one and it's fully working now. Bulb replacement was very easy and took 20 minutes.
