Processors on T42

#1 Post by shorty » Tue Mar 22, 2005 7:25 pm

I received my T42 which I purchased from Ebay. I check the system properties and it says:

Processor 1.7Ghz 209 MHz

Then I check the Dell I own and it says:

Processor 1.4Ghz 1400 Mhz

What's the difference between the later numbers? Did I actually downgrade by going to the IBM?

The machine model is: 2373X69. Does that say much?

That is windows not doing well with speedstep... download mobile meter and it will tell you what speed you are running. you have a faster machine, going from a dell to a thinkpad is never a downgrade, reguardless of speed

So what do those cryptic boat load of model numbers for the T42 mean? I googled it and turns out, there are a ton of different model numbers just for the T42

Shorty, what is meant by the 1.7GHz - 209MHz message is that you actually have a 1.7GHz CPU, but when you checked the screen it was operating at a slower speed. That is not at all a problem, but a great feature of mobile CPUs to prolong battery life. Your CPU only accelerates when you are running intensive tasks..

As far as your model, look it up on the IBM website, not on Google. There are a whole lot of models of T42... Some have different features, others are for different regions, etc.
